Projection Display Technology

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). Most modern LCD imagers have resolutions up to 1920x1200, and home theater models typically use 1920x1080 (1080p) imagers. Higher resolutions are possible, but not common. This projector can accept and display ultra-high-definition video signals, but the actual number of pixels on the screen is only half of the 8.3 million pixels in the signal.

LCoS is a variant of LCD technology. Commonly used LCoS imagers have reached 4K resolution and can be switched at up to 120 Hz, which enables functions such as 3D, frame interpolation and pixel-shifting Ultra HD. However, at 120 Hz, they cannot do pixel-shifted UHD and 3D at the same time. LCoS is generally considered to have the best natural contrast and black levels of all digital projection technologies.

DLP (Digital Light Processing) is the latest digital projection technology and one of the most popular today. DLP can provide true UHD (3840x2160) resolution. DLP projectors use one or more electromechanical imaging devices called DMDs, or digital micromirror devices. These tiny pixel-sized mirror arrays are up to 8.3 million in a 4K-resolution DMD just 1.38 inches wide.
