How to choose a projector?

2022 02/16

(1) Look at technology

The two technology projectors currently on the market are DLP and LCD. DLP projection has high contrast, rich dark layers, rich details, and clear text, but the saturation is not good enough, and it is not vivid enough. LCD projected images have good color saturation and rich color gradation, but text edges are prone to shadows or burrs.

(2) Look at the parameters

1. Brightness

Simply put, the higher the lumen, the brighter the picture. Many businesses have different lumens identification units, including ANSI lumens, ISO lumens, and direct lumens (LM), and the brightness values of different units are quite different. ANSI lumens is an international unit. If the merchant does not mark this unit, you can ask them how much ANSI lumens are. The light in the home environment is relatively bright. It is recommended to buy a home projector with 800ANSI lumens or more. If you don't mind watching in a darker environment, 500-800ANSI is enough.

2. Resolution

Generally speaking, the resolution refers to how many pixels the projection screen is divided into, such as 720P, which is often referred to as 1280×720 pixels. The more pixels, the more delicate the picture, generally choose 1080P high-definition video standard for home use, and the high-definition experience is better.

3. Keystone Correction

In actual viewing, it is difficult to keep the position of the projector and the screen vertical, so keystone correction can assist in correcting the angle of the picture to keep the picture square. Some machines on the market support plus or minus 40 degrees + keystone correction, which means that even if you are side-projecting (within 40 degrees), you can still watch a square picture. However, the single-chip LCD machine will have blurred corners after correction, and the DLP machine will generally not have obvious blurring.

4. Projection size

It refers to the size of the screen that the projector can cast, usually 30 to 150 inches. But limited by resolution and brightness, usually the larger the projection screen size, the weaker the picture clarity and brightness, so you can choose a projector according to the size of your home. For ordinary families and small units, 100 inches of space of 30 square meters is enough.

5. Manual focus vs. auto focus

At resent, all portable projectors with a price of 2k+ support auto-focusing, and handing over the focusing work to the projector can free the user from the complicated manual adjustment. With the development of technology, the autofocus time of the current machine is also very short, usually only 1~2S.
